A Corentyne grocer and his family were attacked in their home by two masked men, armed with a gun and a cutlass, last Friday.
Sookram Diaram along with his wife, Sabitrie Diaram, and daughter, Kavita Diaram, were all at their Lot 347 Ankerville, Port Mourant home when the robbery took place around 7.30pm.
Kavita Diaram said she had closed the shop and was on her way to close the gate when the two men entered the yard.
According to Kavita, one of the bandits was carrying a gun, while the other carried a cutlass, which he used to hit her several times. Kavita stated that while the bandits were busy duct taping her father Sookram’s hands and feet, her mother, Sabitrie, tried shouting to get the neighbours’ attention. With that not working as planned, Sabitrie then tried to jump over a wall that led into the house but Kavita said it was impossible since her mother could not see. Kavita stressed that the bandits were in and out in less than seven minutes.
It was the third time the Diaram family was robbed.
The bandits got away with an undisclosed amount of cash, two laptops, jewellery and a cellular phone.
No one has yet been arrested but police are investigating.
