The body of a Bartica businessman, who was reported missing after his boat capsized, was recovered last Friday.
Errold Singh, a well-known businessman and miner, was travelling from his mining operation in the interior when his boat capsized last Wednesday.
He was accompanied by two workers at the time.
Sources told Stabroek News that the three men were traveling up the Mazaruni River about to climb a rapid when the boat engine shut off, resulting in the boat capsizing.
Singh, who had sustained a previous injury to his shoulder, was unable to swim against the current. One of the workers, who noticed his struggle to stay afloat, attempted to help him to no avail. Stabroek News understands that by the time the worker emerged from the water, Singh had disappeared and the other worker was unable to determine where he had drifted.
Singh’s body resurfaced two days after the tragic incident and was recovered by the Bartica Police.
