A teenager was yesterday released on $175,000 bail after denying that he beat up and robbed a man of his bike and other items.
It is alleged that on March 9, at Albouystown, David La Rose, 19, of 20 Indepen-dence Boulevard, used personal violence to rob Andre Rogers of a motorcycle valued $400,000 and two cell phones valued $8,000, a total value of $408,000. La Rose pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones objected to bail based on the nature and gravity of the offence. He argued that the defendant should not receive bail since he and the complainant are known to each other and the fact that the defendant slashed the virtual complainant’s face with a weapon during the incident, on the day in question. The motorcycle that was allegedly stolen on the day was since recovered, Jones told the court.
Rogers told the court that he recovered his motorbike days after the incident after someone took him to a location where the bike was being held.
The Chief Magistrate subsequently granted La Rose $175,000 bail, she also cautioned him not to go within 50 feet of Rogers until the matter was over. La Rose is to return to court on April 7 for statements.
