An Albouystown man was yesterday released on bail after denying charges that he had possession of an illegal gun and ammunition more than a year and a half ago.
It is alleged that on October 13, 2014, at 164 Curtis Street and Independence Boulevard Albouystown, Raheim Goulding, 32, at his premises, had in his possession a 9mm pistol as well as 14 live matching rounds without being the holder of a firearm licence. On the same day, Goulding also allegedly had a pistol magazine component, without being a licensed firearm holder.
Goulding pleaded not guilty to the three charges that were read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
Police prosecutor Deniro Jones objected to bail based on the gravity of the offence. He said that at the time of the search by police, the father of the accused was also held for the offence since he was in the house when the ammunition was found. The father told the police that it was his son’s house and that he was only visiting.
Goulding’s lawyer, while making a bail application for him, said that the ammunition was found in his father’s house. Although the discoveries were made way back in 2014, police had made no attempts to contact Goulding up until now, the lawyer added.
Bail was eventually set at $75,000 for Goulding, with the condition that he reports to the Narcotics Branch at the Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters every Friday until the completion of trial. The matter was adjourned until April 11.
