The property at Middle and Waterloo streets, where the Halito Hotel is sited, is up for sale.
An advertisement, placed in yesterday’s Kaieteur News by General Electrical Supplies Limited (in receivership), said the 4,956.48 square feet of prime land with a four- storey concrete building is suitable for a hotel or office space.
Stabroek News understands that the building is being sold to make good on monies owed to the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI).
In 2013, the former Cara Suites was rebranded as Halito, a boutique hotel, offering a selection of vintage European, intertwined with Caribbean style luxury, rooms and suites along with its in-house Bistro 176 restaurant and bar.
Sources said that the hotel had not been attracting many guests. Currently, a small amount of guests are at the hotel, Stabroek News was told.
When this newspaper contacted Indira Pyneandy, Managing Director of the hotel, for a comment, she declined.
After the Stabroek News reporter stated that he was not interested in buying, she stated, “Well, that is the only discussion I am interested in.”
Meanwhile, Onica Pereira, the owner of Two Pears Health Mart, which operates at the property, said that she could not comment because she only heard of the advertisement in the papers yesterday and she had not seen it.
The building also houses a branch of King’s Jewellery. Stabroek News tried to contact officials of King’s Jewellery but they were not available for a comment.
