GRFU begins preparing for Rugby World Cup qualifiers

Guyana’s quest to qualify for the Rugby World Cup 2019 starts on April 23 with a match up versus arch rivals, Barbados.

In an effort to pull out all the stops, the 2014 NACRA 15s champions dubbed ‘The Green Machine’ will go into preparatory mode.

According to a release from the Guyana Rugby Football Union, players have been shortlisted for National trials.

Training sessions are scheduled to be conducted every Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays under the watchful eyes of the union appointed coaches Lawrence Adonis, Clinton Clarke, Theodore Henry and Kenneth Grant Stuart.

Practice matches will be played on every Saturday leading up to April 23.

The Union urges all ruggers shortlisted, to attended and be punctual as time is limited. Trial matches kick off at 16:00HRS (4pm) sharp and players will be evaluated as the selection process progresses.

The release further stated “As we celebrate our Independence Golden Jubilee, it is our hope that we succeed. With a cheerful heart, the union thanks all stakeholders for their support and trust that the relationship grows as we aim to build and catapult our great country.”
