The Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha (GHDS) was on Friday gifted with a quantity of Phagwah powder by mobile giant, Digicel in support of this week’s ‘festival of colours’.
According to a press release from Digicel, the company has been supporting the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha in its efforts for a number of years and continues to cover a wide range of activities hosted by the GHDS annually such as Holi Ustav, Phagwah Mela, Naya Zamana, Diwali Motorcade, Indian arrival day celebrations and the weekly television show Kala Milan.
Making the presentation, Communications Manager Vidya Sanichara, reemphasised the need for Guyanese to preserve their culture, stating, “We are a diverse people with a diverse culture and we are pleased to offer our support to Guyana’s cultural multiplicity,” the release said.
“It is well known that Phagwah is a festival that brings Guyanese from all walks of life together in celebration and there is strength in unity, we believe in this,” it added.
Having received the contribution, executive member of the GHDS Ananda Latchman stated that the Phagwah powder will be used in the annual Kala Utsav celebrations which will be held at the Everest Cricket Club on Carifesta Avenue.
