The number of voters who showed up to cast their ballots at the March 18 Local Government Elections was 47.1% of those eligible to vote, according to information released by the Guyana Elections Commission (Gecom) today.
According to the data provided, the lowest voter turnout was recorded in the Municipality of Linden where only 35.15% of registered electors exercised their franchise. They were followed by Georgetown with a turnout of 37.66%. The highest voter turnout was recorded in the NDC of Cane Gove on the East Coast Demerara, while the highest municipal turnout was in the new municipality of Mabaruma, where 58.44% of the registered electors voted.
The turnout for the other municipalities are: Lethem, 50.35%; Corriverton 47.49%; New Amsterdam 40.0%; Rose Hall 49.19% and Anna Regina 53.55%.
