Bartica Hospital lab worker remanded on gun, ammo charges

A Bartica Hospital lab technician pleaded not guilty and was remanded to prison yesterday after being slapped with two charges of illegal gun and ammunition possession.

A city court heard that on March 20, at Itaballi Police Checkpoint, Essequibo, Shemroy Peters, 29, of Bartica, had in his possession a 9 mm Smith and Wesson pistol while he was not the holder of a firearm licence.

It was also alleged that on the same day he was found with seven live 9 mm rounds, without being the holder of a firearm licence. Peters denied the charges when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and was subsequently remanded to prison.

The case was adjourned until April 8, when it will be called at the Bartica Magistrateโ€™s Court.
