A 40-year-old man was yesterday sentenced to a total of seven years in jail after he copped to farming marijuana and having two illegal guns and an assortment of ammunition.
Terry Vansertima will only serve three years in jail, however, since Magistrate Dylon Bess ordered that the sentences run concurrently.
Vansertima admitted to a charge that he cultivated marijuana at Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke-Linden Highway on March 18.
On the same say, he admitted, he had in his possession, a 12-gauge shot gun and a Smith and Wesson 9 mm pistol as well as eight live 9 mm rounds, four .32 rounds, a live .45 round and four live 12-gauge shotgun cartridges.
Vansertima was jailed for three years on the cannabis cultivation charge, and two years on each of the weapons and ammunition charges along with a $50,000 fine. The sentences are expected to run concurrently.
