A vendor is now critical in the Georgetown Public Hospital after he was chopped outside a police outpost on Water Street on Monday night.
Mark Rodney, 39, of South Turkeyen, is said to have sustained injuries to his head and his hands as a result of the attack, which was carried out by a man known to him.
At the hospital, Rodney’s sister, who did not want to be named, told Stabroek News that her brother was chopped with a cutlass by a man with whom he had been arguing over a pallet. She said as a result of the argument, her brother left his Water and Commerce streets spot to make a report at the mobile police outpost on Water Street.
However, she said that his attacker followed him to the outpost and allegedly dealt him several chops about his body in the presence of the police. The woman alleged that the police ran for cover when her brother was being chopped about his body. She said his attacker only stopped when a policeman in plain clothes fired a warning shot.
His assailant is in police custody, she added.
