An independent group will hold the balance of power in the Soesdyke/Huist Coverden Neighbourhood Democratic Council on the East Bank.
The Soesdyke Te Huist Te Coverden Torchbearers Enhancement Group won a single seat in the proportional representation component of Friday’s local government elections for the 18-seat council. The PPP/C won nine seats and APNU+AFC eight. It means that the PPP/C would have to do a deal with one of the two groups to have its candidate for chairman and other decisions supported otherwise there could be gridlock.
The nine winning constituency candidates are Bhupendra Deokie, Misir Mohabir, Deoranie Dookie, Kalowtee Persaud and Mohan Ram Toolsie for the PPP/C and Leslyn Fernandes, Tethram Persaud, Cledwin Anthony Williams and David Loncke for APNU+AFC.
