Ithaca Hardliners sealed their berth to the final of the Berbice Amateur Basketball Association (BABA) sanctioned Anamayah Memorial championships downing Rose Hall Town Jammers 54-46 Sunday at the Rose Hall Basketball Court.
Kester Edwards top scored with 16 points while Elroy Amsterdam and Royman Sinclair scored 10 and nine points respectively. For the losing team, Yasim Tashir recorded a game-high 20 points while Ezequiel Simon and Nickosie Marks scored 11 and six points apiece. The visitors seized early control of the contest in the first quarter which finished 9-5 and maintained their lead in the second quarter (where both teams scored 10 points) to enter the half time interval ahead at 19-15.
The advantage increased marginally in the third period as they outshot their opponents 17-15 to lead 36-30 and Ithaca then sealed the win in the final quarter, netting 18 points to the home side’s 16 points.
Ithaca will oppose the winner of the second semi-final between Fyrish Black Sharks and New Amsterdam Warriors for the championship.
The winning and runner-up teams will receive cash incentives and trophies while an award will also be given for the Most Valuable Player (MVP).
