Kuru-Kururu Warriors secured a vital win in the inaugural Guyana Beach Soccer Association (GBSA) National Championships edging Silver Bullets 6-5 Sunday at the Bayroc Beach Facility in Linden.
Jevon Walker scored a brace in 17th and 22nd minute while Nigel Bennett blasted a brace in the sixth and 19th minute. Also grabbing two goals in the win was Cordel Johnson who netted in the seventh and 35th minute.
On the other side, Kellon Adams netted a brace in the 13th and 24th minute whilst Robin Adams scored in the 17th and 34th minute and Geshawn Freeman in the fifth minute. Meanwhile, the earlier matchup between Silver Bullets and Attention Family was abandoned due to fighting.
At the time of the stoppage, Silver Bullets was ahead 2-1 compliments of goals from Kellon and Robin Adams in the 11th and 17th minute respectively. For Attention Family, Jamal Haynes was on target in the fifth minute.
At the end of the first round, Royal Youths sit atop the standing with 25 points while Kuru-Kururu Warriors, Cool Runnings, High Stars and Attention Family round out the top five with 15, 13, 13 and 13 points respectively.
Rounding out the bottom five are Silver Bullets, Sparta Boss, Buxton Youth Developers, West Front Road and Alexander Village who sit on 12, nine, seven, zero and zero points respectively.
The second round of the event will commence on Sunday at the Kuru-Kururu ground. At 18:30hrs, High Stars will oppose Silver Bullets while at 19:30hrs, Royal Youths will oppose Cool Runnings.
The final fixture at 20:30hrs will pit Kuru-Kururu Warriors against Attention Family.
Winner of the event will receive the championship trophy and $250,000 while the second, third and fourth place finishers will collect the respective accolade and $100,000, $75,000 and $50,000 correspondingly. Other sponsors of the event include E-Networks and 104.3 FM (Linden).
