ST.JOHNS, Antigua, CMC- The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has praised the consistency of the Guyana Jaguars after they successfully defended the Regional Four-Day Professional Cricket League Title on Sunday.
Jaguars scored an emphatic innings and 54-run win over Jamaica Scorpions on the penultimate day of the game to capture their second Headley/Weekes Trophy in as many seasons.
In a statement released late Monday WICB President Dave Cameron noted the “consistency with which the Jaguars have delivered. They were even more convincing in their last match of the round whipping Jamaica Scorpions by an inning and 55 runs.”
Starting the day poised for victory with Scorpions on 171 for five in their first innings, Jaguars bowled the visitors out for 231 before bundling them out again for a paltry 134 in their second innings after enforcing the follow-on, to pull off a resounding victory at the National Stadium.
Jaguars, who entered the final round seven points ahead of main challengers Barbados Pride, ended the season on 149 points.
“What Guyana as a country has done with its cricket product in the last three years, where all categories of their teams have won or been in a final, always challenging for a top position, is commendable,” the president said.
The WICB statement said that the region will now continue to focus its attention on the 2016 ICC World Twenty20 where the male and female teams have won two of the matches played so far.
