A two-day training camp for school aged and junior boxers will be held at the Andrew ‘Sixhead’ Lewis Boxing Gym this weekend.
According to the president of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA), Steve Ninvalle, this weekend will mark the first of a series of training camps scheduled to take place ahead of the International School Boys and Juniors Tournament next month.
“This is in preparation for our International schoolboys and juniors tournament which will be held here on April 29 and 30,” Ninvalle told Stabroek Sport yesterday.
“It is the first of several camps that will be held as we fine tune and shape our young pugilists for the international boxers that will be invading Guyana” the GBA head added.
Ninvalle revealed that the training camp which starts at 10:00hrs will be conducted by AIBA certified three-star coach, Sebert Blake. Blake will be assisted by Terrence Poole, Clifton Moore, Gregory Cort, Orlan ‘Pocket Rocket’ Rogers and others.
Ninvalle noted that Jamaica, Barbados and St. Lucia have already confirmed their participation at the tournament “which comes at a time when the Caribbean is clamoring for more emphasis on the nursery of boxing.”
