Through single-sourcing, Cabinet on Tuesday gave the green light for six contracts for medical supplies and said this was due to time constraints.
APNU+AFC Minister of Natural Resources, Raphael Trotman, who briefed the press yesterday about Cabinet’s Tuesday sitting, noted that single-sourcing is done when the process of going out to tender would be too time consuming thus hampering delivery.
“In an effort to avoid any complaint or any loss of life or injury to persons as a result of the absence of critical drugs and equipment, we thought it best to approve this particular sourcing,” Trotman said.
While they were in opposition, both APNU and the AFC had frowned upon single-sourcing of supplies.
Since the APNU+AFC government took office last May, there have been persistent complaints about the shortage of supplies.
The table below shows the companies which were awarded contracts with a description of the tenders.
