ST GEORGES, Grenada, CMC – Jamaica’s Aiko Jones won the only title of yesterday’s morning session, to make her mark at the 45th CARIFTA Games here.
Jones, who dominated the competition inside the National Athletics Stadium, ended with the gold medal in the Under-18 girls discus with a throw of 46.49 metres.
“It feels good because I got a three-metre personal best,” said Jones, who is attending her first CARIFTA Games.
Jones, who finished second in the shot put on Saturday, opened with 40.87m before measuring 44.23m to put pressure on shot put champion Lacee Barnes, who never looked settled.
Barnes threw 34.41m and followed up with 35.95m before fouling her next three attempts. She finally relaxed and tossed the disc 43.67m to move from sixth to second.
“Unlike yesterday in the shot put, I was very unsettled because I made the placement throw on my last attempt,” she said.
