With the life of the Commission of Inquiry (CoI) into the Camp Street prison unrest having officially come to an end on March 28, hearings have been put on hold until an extension is granted by the State.
Secretary to the Commission, Teshanna Cox, said today that an application seeking an extension had already been submitted to Minister of State Joseph Harmon and that a reply will follow, hopefully by the end of today.
Once advice is given as to the way forward, a press release will then be issued.
The CoI began on March 10, and was scheduled to run for a month. The testimonies of eight inmates have been heard so far, the majority of whom were residents of the Capital A block where unrest led to the death of 17 inmates.
