King’s Night takes the day!

Well that did not take long.

Imported just three weeks ago, Kentucky-bred King’s Night announced its arrival Sunday with a brilliant victory in the feature C and Lower seven-furlong event of the Guyana Cup Fever.

The faultless manner in which the chestnut colt raced to victory in his debut race here, left the betting fans at the Rising Sun Turf Club in disbelief.

King’s Night stormed out of third post and bided its time while Just Call Me Boss set a blistering pace in the overcast conditions.

The move under the grey sky came in a flash.

Just Call Me Boss had the lead, CP Got Even and Plum Plum were lurking and champion jockey Randolph Richmond was waiting for the right moment to go with Kings Night.

The race, which feature eight starters, was going according to his plan.

Around the second turn, Richmond, who had won three races before, angled the champion race horse to the outside of the pace setter and the horses were neck-and-neck with five furlongs to go.

And then the theatrics started to unfold.

CP Got Even went clear, her lead building with every powerful stride and then it happened.

With one breathtaking surge over the final two furlongs, Kings Night with Just Call Me Boss and Plum Plum on his hip seemingly never tired, displayed his superb sprinting speed.

The steed pinned back its ears and drew off on the home straight to claim the $1.2M first prize by about five lengths to snap Just Call Me Boss’ four-race winning streak at the venue. CP Got Even placed third and Plum Plum galloped in fourth.

The win for the colt had its handlers of the Jumbo Jet Racing Stables thinking about bigger things for the newly imported thoroughbred.
