An ex-policeman, who was charged last year with four counts of forgery, was found guilty yesterday and fined a total of $400,000 by a city court.
Kevin McDonald was arraigned on July 21st last year on charges that he forged receipts showing payments made to him by Universal Machinery and uttered forged receipts to Yohini Latchman, Princi-pal Assistant Secretary (Finance) at the former Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, knowing them to be forged.
It was alleged that the offences were committed on April 10th and April 16th, 2014.
Although McDonald did not appear in court for the decision that was handed down yesterday, trial magistrate Fabayo Azore proceeded with the verdict.
Magistrate Azore, in outlining the grounds for her decision, said that she believed the offence committed was a planned one.
Given that it was McDonald’s first offence, he was fined $100,000 for each of the four charges. If he does not pay the fine, he is to serve four years in jail, representing one year for each charge.
