The three persons who were held last week in connection with the murder of Crabwood Creek farmer Khublall Gomes were released from police custody yesterday, according to Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum.
Blanhum told Stabroek News that while the three men were released they are required to report to the police at a stipulated time as the investigation into the murder is still ongoing.
Gomes, 78, of Crab-wood Creek, Corentyne, was discovered dead in a hammock at his home around 9.30pm last Tuesday.
There were visible marks of violence about his body and his licensed shotgun was missing. A plastic string was seen around his neck.
At the time of his death, Gomes was alone at home, since his common-law wife was on vacation in Suriname.
A neighbour had told this newspaper that Khublall’s nephew-in-law, known as ‘Turbo,’ would usually call out to him every day while returning home. However, when Turbo called last Tuesday, no one answered, which aroused suspicion that something was wrong.
Khublall’s gate was also opened, which raised another red flag since the gate was usually closed. The neighbour said Turbo went to his house and alerted him and he then went next door along with Turbo and his wife, to see what was going on. It was then that they found Khublall’s body in the hammock. The man said they sounded an alarm and the police were summoned.
