PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC-Exciting opening batsman Lendl Simmons is set to join the West Indies for their crucial ICC World Twenty20 semi-final against hosts India tomorrow, according to media reports here.
The Trinidad and Tobago cricketer is expected to replace Grenadian batsman Andre Fletcher who injured his hamstring in Sunday’s six-run loss to Afghanistan.
Simmons, 31, was initially named in the Windies World Cup squad before pulling out citing a back injury.
He was scheduled to fly to India for the Indian Premier League (IPL) which runs from April 9 to May 29.
Simmons is considered one of the leading Twenty20 batsmen in the world with an average of 31.18 from 165 matches.
Simmons was picked up by the struggling Mumbai Indians last year and played a key role to help them securing the IPL title.
