Despite completing six out of 14 rounds, the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) is yet to pay the participating clubs their match day stipends in the League Finale section of the Stag Beer Elite League.
While efforts to contact the GFF President Wayne Forde was unsuccessful as his cellular phone was turned off, General Secretary of the GFF Deidre Davis confirmed that the teams have not been paid yet, noting “The matter is being dealt with internally.”
The GFF is to pay every player in the tournament who is part of the match day squads a rate of $2500 per game. That is a $500 increase from last year’s rate in the League Genesis section.
Presently four teams have played seven round of matches and are to receive from the GFF $17,500. These teams are the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), the Georgetown Football Club (GFC), Fruta Conquerors and the Monedderlust FC.
On the other hand, Alpha United, Slingerz FC, Buxton United and Pele have completed six rounds and will complete the seventh round of fixtures when the league resumes on April 3rd. They are to receive $15,000 prior to the commencement of the seventh round.
According to sources within several of the clubs, no information has been forthcoming from the federation regarding this issue.
The sources noted that a meeting was held between several of the clubs recently and that issues pertaining to the league were ventilated inclusive of the match day stipends which have not been paid by the federation.
“As of this morning nothing has been received. The clubs have not received any information from them on when it will be addressed. This money is needed to assist in the running of the teams and to help motivate the players,” one of the sources declared.
