A West Ruimveldt resident was yesterday granted his release on $300,000 bail after he denied driving in a dangerous manner and ending the life of another man.
Andrew Holder, 58, of Lot 616 West Ruimveldt, pleaded not guilty to the charge that on March 6th, at the Houston Access Road, he allegedly drove his vehicle in a dangerous manner, causing the death of Dinesh Bissoon.
The charge of causing death by dangerous driving was read to Holder by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Attorney Paul Fung-A-Fat, while making an application for bail for Holder, told the court that on the day of the accident Bissoon suddenly crossed the road and his client, who was driving, applied brakes but somehow the vehicle collided with the man. He said that since the night of the accident, Holder was released on $40,000 station bail and presently he is asking the court for reasonable bail until the trial.
Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones, who had no objections to bail, told the court that Holder was placed on station bail because Bissoon was injured at the time. After being hospitalised, he said, Bissoon succumbed to his injuries.
Jones added that the prosecution’s facts differ from those of the defence as police found that Holder was negotiating a turn when he struck Bissoon.
Bail was granted and the matter was adjourned until April 20th for statements.
