Another Sussex Street, Charlestown man was gunned down late last evening in what is suspected to be a reprisal killing after the murder of Kevon Payne, a member of the Coast Guard who was executed on Tuesday evening not far from his Sussex Street home.
Walton ‘Tuffy’ Taylor, a father of three, was seated at the corner of Adelaide and Sussex streets, Charlestown, when two men rode up on a CG motorcycle and started firing shots in his direction around 9pm.
Stabroek News was told that a total of 11 shots were discharged, four of which reportedly hit Taylor in his back and abdomen. A suspect was later arrested and was in custody up to press time.
Stabroek News understands that ranks on patrol duty nearby were alerted to the shooting by the gunshots. Upon arrival at the scene, they saw Taylor’s body lying motionless on the ground with several gunshot wounds.
The man was the taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he reportedly died. Attempts to speak to the relatives proved futile as they were grieving and created a ruckus over the man’s death.
“My brother-in-law don’t do live bad with people,” one relative lamented in between sobs as another woman, who was identified as his spouse, sat in a wheel chair struggling to compose herself.

One woman asked that the family be left to grieve, while adding that they know nothing of what transpired.
Police sources said the shooting was being treated as a hit and not a robbery and they received reports that it was related to the recent shooting of Payne.
Payne, also known as “Scar,” died on Tuesday evening after he was shot five times, including once to the chest.
According to the police, the shooting was allegedly carried out by two men on CG motorcycles who were engaged in an argument with Payne.
An injured Payne was taken to the GPH, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, while Shakel Williams, a bystander, has been admitted to hospital with a gunshot wound.
Police said two men, armed with firearms, rode up on a motor cycle and discharged rounds in their direction. Williams was hit to his right foot.
Ranks of a police mobile patrol that was in the vicinity responded to the sound of gunshots and confronted the two suspects, who managed to escape after an exchange of gunfire with the ranks.
Two men have since been apprehended and are currently in police custody.
