Dear Editor,
The astronomical increase of 500% in the rent for stands on Merriman Mall for vendors is unconscionable. By the way, what consideration is being given to the few vendors who sell basically dasheen and tannia, or the elderly woman who sells chocolate sticks, starch and salted fish? Obviously, their businesses will come to a screeching halt, since the volume of sales is unlikely to sustain the rental and still make a profit.
Finally, with the construction of stands in Orange Walk as an additional source of revenue, who is responsible for an ongoing construction between North Road and Robb Street? Did it receive approval from the Engineers’ and Sanitation Depart-ments? I ask this since it is approximately 4’ on the northern side from a transformer affixed to a lamp-post. It would be prudent for the Town Clerk to provide answers.
