WICB to probe Sammy’s comments

ST.JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC- President of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), Dave Cameron, has apologised for what WICB described as ‘inappropriate ‘ comments by captain Darren Sammy after West Indies conjured-up a miraculous four wicket win over England to regain the T20 World Cup.

They come from far-flung lands across the vast expanse of the Caribbean Sea, from the shadows of the majestic Blue Mountains of Jamaica to Guyana, the jewel atop the crown of the continent of South America and all of the disparate lands in between, but somehow for lo these many decades since 1928 under the aegis of a geo-political designation called West Indies under which umbrella they have come together – men and women with a unique characteristic flair, finesse and flamboyance to play a game called  cricket as no other nation in the world can.

Correction

A report regarding the death of 10-year-old Ishmael Raghubir carried in yesterday’s edition of the Stabroek News under the title ‘La Grange boy killed by reversing car’ had erroneously stated that the accident occurred in front of the boy’s Independence Street home.

Rodney was a special person

Dear Editor, There is a beautiful song which the late Sam Cooke sang that goes: “The song has ended but the melody lingers on…” Such is the saga of Walter Rodney, whose life was ended in June of 1980; however the melody of his passing lingers on and on.

President Obama charmed Argentines by dancing the tango during his visit to the South American country recently, but his trip may be remembered for something much more important: It may mark the start of a new cycle of much closer US-Latin American ties.

A reminder that our cricket matters

Sunday was one of those rare days in Caribbean cricket that will go down as truly unforgettable; the West Indies captured the two ICC World T20 men and women’s titles, (to go along with the T20 Under-19 title won just a few weeks ago).
