Guyana yesterday welcomed its third cruise visit as patrons of the Serenissima spent the day visiting the Kaieteur Falls and touring the city.
Operated by the tour company the Noble Caledonia of the United Kingdom, the cruise ship arrived in Guyana yesterday morning with close to 90 passengers. According to Director of the Ministry of Tourism Don Sinclair, the arrival of the cruise ship is the third for the year so far.
“More and more these events are happening which is telling us that Guyana is coming out of its obscurity. In the 1970s Guyana was off the tourism map but now we are more and more a part of the cruise tourism map. I don’t think in any other year we have had this happening,” he said.
Meanwhile, both the ship’s Captain Etien Bonacic and the Cruise Director Neil Horrocks expressed happiness at being able visit Guyana again. Horrocks said that after leaving Guyana, the cruise will also be making stops in Paramaribo, Suriname and Cayenne, French Guiana.
