A date was yesterday set for the start of the trial of Police Constable Tito Benons who was allegedly found recently with an unlicensed pistol and 15 rounds of ammunition.
Georgetown Magistrate Fabayo Azore has set April 14 for the commencement of the trial of Benons, who is facing charges of possession of a firearm without a licence and possession of ammunition without a licence.
Benons was charged last Friday with having in his possession a Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol and 15 rounds of matching ammunition.
It is further alleged that the weapon and ammunition were discovered by ranks of a police traffic patrol on Saturday, March 26, at Norton Street and Louisa Row, Georgetown, after the defendant, who was among four other men on three CG motor, was stopped and searched.
Benons’ lawyer had told the court that his client was on his way to lodge the weapon at a police station when he was intercepted.
