PhotosLethem and Moco-Moco in photosBy Keno George April 6, 2016 The now abandoned Moco-Moco Hydro Power station which has recently garnered Expressions of Interest for its rehabilitation. While the Chinese-built Moco- Moco hydropower plant was severely damaged by a rockslide in 2003, its remnants now serve as tourist attraction for those who are willing to undertake the 999-step journey to the top of the Plant. As the persistent El Nino conditions in the Rupununi continue, the Moco-Moco falls has also been faced with a low flow of water. However, this did not stop a few from picnicking on the rocks. This student of the St. Ignatius Secondary School was photographed peddling her way over the Takutu Bridge from Bom Fin, Brazil making her morning journey to school. A glimpse of Moco-Moco Village complemented by the view of the Kanuku Mountain range in the backdrop. This gang of bikers rode through the town of Lethem in fine style on their Harley’s. The bicycle is a common means of transportation in the Rupununi. This little girl was seated comfortably as the cyclist gave Stabroek News a thumbs up just before the two made their way across the Takutu Bridge. The Ariwa Beach, located behind the village of St. Ignatius, Central Rupununi is a new and developing tourism initiative that is being managed by St. Ignatius resident Johnathan Joseph.Comments
