Soldiers among four charged over ganja found in South Ruimveldt house

Two soldiers are among four persons who were remanded to prison on Tuesday by a city magistrate after being charged with possession of marijuana for trafficking.

Guyana Defence Force Privates Dellon Barrington, 21, and Jude Lovell, 22, as well as mason Timothy St. Hill, 35, and bus conductor Jeremiah Lovell, 22, pleaded not guilty to the charge that was read to them by Magistrate Fabayo Azore.

It is alleged that on April 2nd, at Lot 1657 South Ruimveldt, they had 260 grammes of cannabis in their possession.

According to the prosecutor, a party of policemen, on a raid, proceeded to the residence where the four men lived and carried out a search. The police found the cannabis in a bedroom, the prosecutor added.

The prosecutor objected to bail based on the seriousness of the offence.

Magistrate Azore subsequently remanded the four men to prison. Their matter was adjourned until April 26th.
