A West Coast Berbice man was yesterday sentenced to three years in jail after he admitted to having 345 grammes of cocaine in his possession.
Victor Kippins, who appeared before Magistrate Ronald Weaver at the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court, pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
According to the prosecution, on the day in question, at Lot 621 Number 28 Village, West Coast Berbice, police officers approached Kippins, who attempted to make a run for it. It was explained that Kippins ran to the back of the yard and jumped over the fence. However, Constable Travis Griffith ran after him and was successful in making the arrest.
Kippins pleaded guilty to the charge and in addition to the jail sentence was fined $50,000.
