Buxton brothers charged with assaulting car burglar

Two Buxton brothers were yesterday granted their release on $30,000 bail each after denying an assault on a person who broke into to their vehicle.

It is alleged that on November 25th, 2015, at Annandale, Dameion Willis, 24, and Fabian Willis, 18, of 48 Willis Street, Buxton, unlawfully and maliciously assaulted Zaman Mohammed.

Both brothers pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to them by Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul at the Better Hope Community Centre.

The lawyer for the Willis brothers stated that his clients were placed on $20,000 bail by the police since the incident occurred last year. He also expressed dismay that the police took five months to charge the brothers and no charges were made out against the virtual complainant.

The police prosecutor, who had no objections to bail, told the court that on the day of the incident, Dameion Wills secured his vehicle and went to bed. A noise woke him up and when he went out to look he saw Mohammed breaking into his car and damaging parts of the vehicle. Dameion upon seeing this, alerted his brother and the two gave chase to the complainant. When they caught up with him they allegedly beat him, the prosecutor added.

The brothers were granted bail and their matter was adjourned until April 25th, when it will be called at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court.
