Magistrate requests station diary to verify alibi of accused in robbery of judge

Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul has ordered that a station diary, which may establish an alibi for one of the accused in the violent robbery of Justice Nicola Pierre and her family, be produced in court today.

Magistrate Ally-Seepaul, who is presiding over the trial of Premnauth Samaroo and co-accused Nicholas Narine, Daymeion Millington, Warren McKenzie, and Anthony David, ordered that the Station Sergeant of the Sparendaam Police Station produce the station book with the entries for July 8, 2015 to July 10, 2015, to the court.

The station book was requested by Premnauth Samarooโ€™s attorney Adrian Thompson so as to obtain the names of those who were with his client at the time when police say the robbery was taking place.

On Wednesday, Samaroo began to lead his defence by giving testimony about his whereabouts on the night of July 8, leading into the morning hours of July 9.

He told the court that he was with a group of friends on the East Coast. He said they were travelling to Agriculture Road to pick up another friend from his girlfriendโ€™s residence. Samaroo said the car they used on the night broke down when they were making their way back to Georgetown.

On that same night, he told the court, the police had arrested him and his friends at Plaisance when they were waiting on public transportation to take them home. Samaroo denied the fact that he knew about the robbery and he also denied that he knew any of his four co-accused.

The friends that were allegedly with Samaroo on the night will be summoned to testify in the court proceedings.

The trial continues today.

The five men are on trial for allegedly robbing the judge and her husband, Mohamed Chan, of cash and articles amounting to over $3.6 million as well as shooting at security guard Ron Peters on July 9, 2015.
