Dear Editor,
Kindly allow me to join the conversation `Firearm licence fee increase is a blow to vulnerable business community’ as published in Wednesday’s SN Letter Column.
I do agree that the increase in the firearm licence fees for handguns is not only punitive but an impediment as to how we can help in fighting crime.
I have made over three arrests as a licenced firearm holder with the Police taking the intruders to the station whilst I delivered another to them.
Today’s criminal’s working tool is the handgun not the Juka and whilst you cower in fear as they tear down the grill to enter your premises or “greet” you on arrival what better weapon to have as you fightback with appropriate force.
Our Standing Operating Procedures do not permit us to leave our guns in the car etc. It suggests that you lodge it at the nearest Police Station but I posit the question: how many of us are willing to do that -you be the judge.
Yours faithfully,
