Guyana Police Force leadership meets with Surinamese counterpart: On Thursday, a Guyana Police Force delegation comprising Commissioner of Police Seelall Persaud, DSM, Assistant Commissioner ‘Operations’ Christopher Griffith, Head of the Criminal Investigations Department Senior Superintendent Wendell Blannum, Deputy Chief Immigration Officer Assistant Commissioner Dale Alves, Head of the Special Branch Senior Superintendent Lindon Denny and ‘B’ Division Commander Assistant Commissioner Ian Amsterdam met with their counterparts in Nickerie, Suriname. According to a Guyana Police Force statement, the Suriname delegation comprised Commissioner Agnes Daniels and Commander of the Nickerie District Widejai Kumar Oedit along with 12 other senior officers from the Suriname Police Corps. The statement said issues discussed included the sharing of information/intelligence and other assistance regarding organised crimes, inclusive of drug trafficking, human trafficking and money laundering as well as piracy. It added that a number of decisions were taken to enhance the collaboration between the two organisations, such as the establishment of points of contact to pursue specific areas and the holding of an annual meeting between the senior officers of the two forces alternately in the two countries. It was noted that professional exchange will also occur to enhance the relationship and understanding of the laws of the two countries and the procedures of the two organisations. The statement said too that one of the most important objectives achieved was the familarisation of the officers holding key positions since, like Guyana, new officers would have been appointed to the Suriname Police Corps.
