The clerks for the three new towns are currently temporary appointments and permanent appointments will be made in consultation with the town councils, Minister of Communities Ronald Bulkan has said.
“That responsibility is currently administered by the ministry as it has been in the absence of the operationalisation of the [Local Government] Commis-sion,” Bulkan told Stabroek News when asked about the selection of town clerks. He acknowledged that there are currently acting town clerks in some of those areas. Asked how the permanent appointments will be made, Bulkan said this will be done in consultation with the town councils. In terms of whether government will wait until the operationalization of the Local Government Commission, Bulkan responded: “There is not a clear determination as we speak, it could be either way.”
