The body of Tactical Services Unit (TSU) Special Constable Akeem Hyles has been recovered and a post-mortem examination done yesterday listed the cause of death as drowning.
According to Divisional Commander Ravindradat Budhram, the body was retrieved from the Amatuk Falls area, Potaro River on Sunday and later transported to the city.
The boat in which Hyles was travelling capsized last Friday.
Hyles, 22, and eight other policemen were accompanying other Joint Services personnel and officials of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) to the area on an operation to halt illegal mining at Kaieteur National Park.
At the time of the mishap Hyles was not wearing a life jacket which is a mandatory requirement when travelling on the country’s waterways.
