A Guyhoc Park resident was yesterday remanded to prison after he was charged with having an illegal gun and matching rounds of ammunition in his possession.
A city court heard that on April 2, 2016, at Turtle Creek Backdam, Mazaruni River, Gilbert Oudkerk, 49, allegedly had in his possession a 9mm pistol without being the holder of a firearm licence. It was also alleged that he had in his possession eight live 9mm rounds of ammunition, also without being the holder of a firearm licence.
Oudkerk pleaded not guilty to both of the charges when they were read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
Attorney Mark Waldron, who appeared on behalf of Oudkerk, made application for his bail but it was denied by the Chief Magistrate.
Oudkerk was subsequently remanded to prison until April 20, when the matter will be called at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
