A national of the Republic of Guinea was on Sunday arrested after he attempted to pass off documents, which stated he is a Guyanese national, to an immigration official in order to gain entry into Suriname.
Stabroek News understands that on Sunday the 42-year-old man, during his attempt to leave Guyana for Suriname, presented a forged Guyana passport to immigration authorities at Springlands, Berbice.
A search was subsequently conducted on his person and a forged Guyanese national ID card bearing his photograph and date of birth was found along with an original passport and other documents.
Further investigations revealed that the passport was reportedly stolen by a Guyanese national.
He was arrested and during questioning he told police investigators that he paid a total of US$500 to get the documents.
Efforts are currently being made to contact Interpol to enquire if he is wanted for any criminal offence.
