Royal Youths continued their impressive displays in the inaugural Guyana Beach Soccer Association (GBSA) Corona Beer national championships, dismissing High Stars 5-1 Saturday at the Bayroc Beach Facility, Linden.
In the all-Linden affair, event top scorer Shane Luckie took his tally to 22 conversions, finding the back of the net twice.
Luckie commenced the rout with a 10th minute strike while Quacey Tafawa made it 2-0 in the 17th minute. Marvin Phillips further strengthened their position with a 22nd minute effort.
The score line ballooned once more as Luckie sealed his brace with a 29th shot and the lopsided contest was eventually sealed in the 34th minute when Leonard Griffith scored. On the receiving end for most of the contest, High Stars registered a consolation goal with Leonard Peters the goal scorer.
Meanwhile, Cool Runnings and Kuru-Kururu Warriors battled to a 5-5 result. Qualon Adries led the way with a brace for Cool Runnings in the 12th and 28th minutes while Marvin Fordyce, Andell Mendonca and Rodwin Fraser scored in the 17th, 19th and 22nd minutes respectively.
For Kuru Kururu Warriors, Cordell Johnson and Ryan Scott scored doubles in the 12th and 18th minutes and 24th and 36th minutes respectively while Kevon Williams chipped in with 32nd minute strike.
Action is set to continue on Sunday.
In the opening fixture at 18:30hrs, Cool Runnings will tackle Silver Bullets while Royal Youths will faceoff with Kuru-Kururu Warriors in the feature contest at 20:30hrs.
Prior to the commencement of the aforesaid showdowns, the GBSA will stage two exhibition fixtures beginning from 17:30hrs. The matches which will be played in two halves of 15 minutes, will pit Bernard Variety All-Stars against BOSAI Minerals and Bella Lumberyard against the Linden Utility Company.
