The Free Souls Dance Theatre Company of Guyana in collaboration with the Theatre Guild of Guyana will stage its first production titled “This is Guyana” at the Theatre Guild on April 23, next Saturday.
The production will begin at 8 pm and will feature Hip-Hop, Indian, Afro-Caribbean and Contemporary genres of dance.
In addition to performances by members of the Free Souls Dance Company (Kijana Lewis, Mwanza Glenn, Rhonda Dunbar, Fiano Spencer, Maranda Drakes-Hutson, Radiante Frank, Travis Bowen, Paul Charles and Lotoya Brown), “This is Guyana” will also include items by the Euphoria Dance Group and the Nadira and Indranie Shaw Dance Group.
According to Creative Director of Free Souls Kijana Lewis, the production is more than just dance. “It encompasses dramatic and theatrical expressions… about the nation, our people and our lives in this our fiftieth year of independence and the hope of us climbing to the future,” he explained.
“This is Guyana” will be a five-segment production, with each segment dealing with a particular issue facing Guyanese society: ‘Politics,’ ‘Race,’ ‘Mental Health,’ ‘Discrimination’ and Gender-Based Violence’.
Tickets cost $2,000 and are on sale at Fitness Paradise Gym, WaRo Couture on Orange Walk and the Theatre Guild Playhouse on Parade Street.
