Different race same script for Team Gillette Evolution (TGE).
Two weeks after placing 1-3 in the Powerade 33-mile road race at West Demerara, the wheelsmen in their crisp black and white team kit took their talents to the National Park Circuit yesterday and once again swept the podium in the feature event.
Michael Anthony led teammates, Raul Leal and Marlon ‘Fishy’ Williams across the line in the feature 35-lap event of the Hassan Mohamed-organized 12th annual Universal Auto Sales and Spares multi race programme.
With the TGE unit tuned to precision after a dedicated early season racing schedule, the trio was able to sweep the podium without any theatrics.
Shaquel Agard (Linden Bauxite Flyers), Chris Holder (Team Coco’s) and this season’s most successful rider, Orville Hinds (TGE) filled out the top six paid positions.
Anthony’s third victory for the season which came in a brisk one hour, 18 minutes and 29 seconds was the 11th for his team in the 14 open races staged so far.
The club’s dominance was underlined by Wilkinson bagging half of the eight sprint prizes. One apiece went to Leal, Williams, Hinds and Warren ’40’ McKay.
After the initial five laps, Anthony and the other top six finishers broke away from the 13-man field and were never caught.
The riders rode in tandem all the way up to lap 29. At this stage, Anthony threw teamwork out the window and went into time trial mode.
Despite the efforts of the chasers, he was able maintain his lead and went onto win unchallenged. Leal then out sprinted Williams to place second.
Other winners yesterday included: Junior Niles (veteran’s under 50-five lap even), Andrew Spencer (veteran’s over-50), Raphael Leung (Juveniles -10 laps), Keon Thomas (Mountain Bikes), John Niles (BMX 6-9 years), Adelie Hodge (BMX 9-12 years) and Jeremiah Harrison (12-14 years).
