A man who admitted to having cocaine, ganja and a pipe to smoke the drugs on his person was on Friday jailed for three years, fined $19 000 and also ordered to do community service.
The court heard that on April 12 in the vicinity of Albouystown, Sean Peters, 28, of 183 Callender Street, Albouystown had in his possession one gramme of cocaine, a gramme of cannabis and a pipe used to smoke cocaine. He pleaded guilty to three charges of possession of the three items when they were read to him by Magistrate Annette Singh.
Police Prosecutor Michael Grant told the court that on the day in question, at about 3:20 am, the police were in the area and saw Peters who is known to them. Grant said the ranks stopped Peters and searched him and found the drugs and the smoking apparatus.
Peters admitted to the court that the police found the drugs and his smoking pipe in his possession.
Magistrate Singh subsequently sentenced him to three years in jail and fined him $10 000 on the cocaine charge while ordering him to complete 15 hours of community service and pay a fine of $3000 on the ganja charge. For possession of the pipe, Peters was sentenced to a year in jail along with a fine of $6000. His prison time will run concurrently.
