Dear Editor,
I wish to respond to a claim by Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo that the Office of the Prime Minister has rented the building in Port Mourant that was once Roopmahal Cinema. That building actually consists of upper floors for a cinema and other entertainment purposes and a lower or ground floor that has 15 offices.
The Office of the Prime Minister, Region 6 (East Berbice /Corentyne) occupies only one of these ground floor office spaces.
Besides me, I have two persons working in the office: one a clerk and the other a cleaner. Both have been employed not on the basis of their origins but on their competence.
The idea behind my office is to work with the public on matters of concern and issues which could be addressed through the Office of the Prime Minister.
Since taking up this responsibility I have been consistently liaising with the farming and business population and assisting them with solutions which bring relief to them, whether in Black Bush Polder, or No 52-74 or the Crabwood Creek local government area and of course more gratifyingly in the recent case of mitigation of flooding in the Hogstye /Lancaster NDC.
Needless to say my interventions in assisting persons to resolve their issues have been highly appreciated and this office is becoming increasingly popular for citizens in Region 6 who could use some help to get their problems addressed.
Accordingly I am not surprised that Mr Jagdeo is now taking an interest in the work of this office since it nails his lie that this Government is not concerned about the problems or the welfare of some people.
Sorry to negate your propaganda Mr Jagdeo, but the Office of the Prime Minister is concerned and its presence in Region 6 really and truly takes the Office of the Prime Minister beyond Georgetown for the benefit of all the residents, I repeat, all the residents of Region 6.
Yours faithfully,
Gobin Harbhajan
Office of the Prime Minister-
Regional Representative,
Region #6 & RDC Councillor
