Following the unavailability of the National Stadium due to international cricket and the current state of the Leonora Sports Facility field, the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) has officially moved the Golden Jaguars CFU Caribbean Cup home fixture to Curacao.
Guyana was set to commence round two of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Caribbean Cup Qualifiers against Curacao on June 1 at the National Stadium, Providence before locking horns with United States Virgin Islands (USVI) on June 7 at the Adelita Cancryn Playing Field.
However, according to a press release from the federation, “The Guyana Football Federation (GFF), in collaboration with the Curacao Football Federation and the United States Virgin Islands Football Association have come to an agreement as it relates to their respective fixtures of the Second Round of the Scotiabank Men’s Caribbean Cup Championship.
“This decision was made due to the unavailability of an appropriate venue in Guyana to host the matches and was agreed to by the two other Regional Associations and the Caribbean Football Union.
“The Guyana National Stadium, the original venue of the games slated for Guyana, is unavailable for use due to an international cricket engagement. The National Track and Field Facility, Leonora was considered as an option however, following a site visit by a team from the GFF, will require a significant amount of work to ensure its readiness.”
“The new schedule also includes a date change from the 7th to the 4th June for Guyana’s second fixture and reads as follows: Game 1: Guyana vs Curacao, to be played in Curacao on 1st June, 2016 at Ergilio Hato. Game 2: Guyana vs USVI, to be played in USVI on 4th June, 2016 at Adelita Cancryn Playing Field,” the release concluded.
