It will be a matchup of the struggling sides in the 10th round of the GFF Stag Beer Elite League when fifth positioned Pele FC opposes seventh placed Buxton United today at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground from 20:30hrs.
The Georgetown unit has struggled throughout the event with only three wins and a draw recorded to date alongside five losses.
Their current form has had an obvious effect on their numbers, with only nine goals recorded offensively which translates to one goal per match despite featuring players such as Gregory Richardson, Omallo Williams, Konata Manning and Travis Grant in their roster.
Defensively, the scenario is also the same result for the experienced unit as 13 goals have been shipped in at a rate of 1.4 goals per fixture.
Similarly, Buxton United will attempt to get their campaign back on the right track back after only claiming five points from their earlier nine fixtures.
Like their impending foe, the East Coast of Demerara has also struggled going forward after only registering six goals. More is expected from the likes of Denver Dennis, Clive Andries and Delon Wright to improve on the rate of 0.6 goals per matchup.
On the defensive end, the Buxtonians have conceded an unwanted 14 goals which translates to 1.55 goals per match. Meanwhile in the opening contest at 18:00hrs, third positioned Alpha ‘the Hammer’ United will oppose sixth placed Monedderlust FC.
‘The Hammer’ are formidable unit with numbers that illustrate their competitiveness in the event as they sit on 17 points. From the attacking perspective, Alpha United has recorded 23 goals at a rate of 2.55 goals per game compliments of a roster featuring Anthony Abrams, Delon Lanferman, Dwight Peters and Daniel Wilson.
On the defensive front, the numbers are equally daunting with only eight goals surrendered at a ratio of 0.88 per match. On the other side, the Berbice unit sit on six points owing to their inconsistent form.
From the attacking perspective, the Kevin Cottoy led offence has only scored six goals thus far at 0.6 goals per match. The defensive numbers are equally poor, with 20 goals already conceded at a rate of 2.22 goals.
Winner of the League Finale round will pocket $4,000,000 while the second, third and fourth place teams will collect $2,000,000, $1,000,000 and $500,000 respectively. Similarly, the point’s leader prior to the knockout stage will pocket an additional $1,000,000.
The season champion will then be crowned when the winner of the League Genesis and League Finale respectively faceoff in a single matchup. That winner will then earn an automatic berth at the CFU level.
If the winner of the League Genesis and League Finale rounds are the same team, they will earn the automatic CFU spot, with the second berth going to the team with the most accumulated points in both rounds non-inclusive of the eventual season champion.
