Guyana’s first 2019 World Rugby Qualifier match will kick off on Saturday when the national 15s team tackle Barbados at the National Park from 16:00hrs.
These and other details were discussed yesterday at the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) headquarters in Kingston by some of the players and the top brass of the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU).
Last March, the national team dubbed the ‘Green Machine’ handed Barbados a 48-22 whipping in their NACRA (now Rugby Americas North (RAN) 15s Qualifier match.
If captain, Richard Staglon’s prediction is right, Guyana will once again emerge winners over Bajans.
“We are expected to win and that is what we intend to do.” Staglon added “We have a good blend of young and experienced players and we are focused on a positive result.”
President of the union, Peter Green said the players will be playing for National Pride come Saturday.
“Our 50th anniversary this year is very significant and we must win and contribute to the celebrations of our nation.”
Green then encouraged patrons “to wear green or yellow” to support the players as they start their quest to qualify for the 2019 World Cup. Admission is free. See you there. (Emmerson Campbell)
