Rosignol United and Paradise Invaders battled to a scoreless result when the Berbice Football Association (BFA) West Berbice League continued Sunday at the Rosignol Sports Ground.
While the contest featured a few opportunities of note, Rosignol United’s Akeem Rigby almost grabbed the go-ahead goal in the 29th minute but his attempt struck the crossbar. It was the best chance fashioned in the first period by either side.
Similarly, the best chance of the second period was also crafted by the hosts but Marlon Nicholson fluffed a golden opportunity to snatch the three points in the dying moments compliments of a smart save from the goalkeeper following a one on one situation.
Action in the event is slated to continue on Saturday and Sunday.
On Saturday, Mahaicony FC will tackle Rosignol United from 16:00hrs at the Mahaicony Sports Ground while Sunday’s matchup will pit Hopetown United FC against Paradise Invaders from 16:00hrs at the Rosignol Ground.
“In an effort to keep senior football alive in Berbice and with no sponsor, the BFA with its members agreed to organize a league in a self-funding manner, where the teams covered the cost,” a release from the BFA stated.
“And in order to reduce costs there would be three leagues. The West Berbice League, the New Amsterdam League and the Corentyne League. The winners of each league will meet in a round robin playoff to determine the overall Berbice champion,” the release added.
